What is Disordered Eating?
Disordered eating is defined as a pattern of irregular or inconsistent eating habits that have a negative impact on your physical and emotional health but do not meet criteria for a clinical eating disorder. If you're struggling with disordered eating, you may notice that your eating patterns are driven by emotional triggers, stress, boredom, or other factors, rather than hunger or fullness. This may include patterns of behavior like emotional eating, over eating, chronic dieting, impulsive eating, inconsistent or unbalanced meals, or even difficulty prioritizing meals throughout the day. Those who struggle with emotional eating often feel like they don't have control over their eating habits and struggle with feelings of guilt and self-judgement related to their behaviors around food. Over time, disordered eating can have significant consequences on one's mental and physical health, body image, and relationships.
